On 20 September 2017, UNIMY held an event for the launching of the Data Science Society and also the Logo Competition. The event kicked off with a welcoming address by Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.

During the event, students were given insight to the day’s theme, which was Artificial Intelligence for Good Hackathon. There was also a talk by Ms Noelle Lim, the Executive Director of BFM-Edge Education, who held a Q&A session at the end of her talk. Lim – who shared her work experience and talked about job opportunities – also focused on how artificial intelligence can be used to address poverty and enhance human lives.

Said Alexis (Foundation student in UNIMY), “The launching of UNIMY’s Data Science Society is a great opportunity for UNIMY students to get involved in an IT-related society. I hope that the society will organise more events, workshops and talks for the benefit of all to learn while gaining skills.”

As for the Logo Competition, students are invited to brainstorm as a team or individually to rebrand UNIMY with a new logo and slogan. Dr. Ramli Ismail (Dean, Centre for Student Experience) said, “We can pay the professionals to create our logo but why are we asking you guys to do it? It is because we want our students to own the logo as a pride, not them.”
